The Lake District, that area of outstanding natural beauty nestled in the North West, is without rival. And, with
its stunning combination of vast,
crystal-clear lakes, interspersed with 3000ft peaks, verdant hills and chocolate-box villages, it's unique in the UK. Although the lakes are the most obvious draw, the surrounding National Park also has much to offer.
If you prefer a relaxed holiday you can amble among the quaint tea shops or indulge in some hearty northern fare in one of the many cosy pubs in the area. If you like an active break, there are countless walks of varying difficulties as well as a whole host of other outdoor pursuits to enjoy, from wind surfing to mountain climbing. One of the things that makes the Lake District so surprising is that it squeezes all this, and more, into an area of only 30 miles across.
There's much history and culture to soak up, too. Beatrix Potter and Wordsworth are just two of the Lakes' alumni, and there are visitor centres dotted across the park, explaining the flora, fauna and landscape. There's even the world's largest pencil, at the Cumberland Pencil Museum!
So, whatever you're looking for from your next motorcaravanning holiday, it's likely you'll find it here among this national treasure, just waiting to be cherished and explored by you and your motorhome.
