GREAT TRAILS
Great trails in North Yorkshire
This is a huge county, but start from the heart of the area and you’ll see more of its attractions.
People who say “it’s grim up North” have obviously never been there. And they certainly can’t have visited Yorkshire. Famous for its rugged landscape, its pudding, and the locals’ dry wit, the region has more than its fair share of beguiling qualities.
A combination of natural beauty and human history make this county a fascinating and refreshing place to visit – and somewhere you won’t tire of in a hurry. In the pages which follow, we’ve done the hard work for you: visiting incredible country houses and tracking down film locations, while finding the time to stop at some of the fine restaurants and cafés to sample the local fare; from curd tarts to smoked fish.
Yorkshire spans a huge swathe of northern England, so we headed to Knaresborough at the heart of the region. Our excursions alone were memorable enough, but the warm Yorkshire welcome we encountered at every stop made our stay even more memorable.
