For winter beauty, few sites can match the dramatic views at Glenmore. Part-owned by the Forestry Commission, the site
is in the Cairngorms National Park, an outdoor enthusiasts' playground, particularly for walkers, cyclists and skiers.

Owned by the National Trust, this seven-acre site offers superb views over Wastwater, the deepest of all the lakes in the Lake District. Scafell, and Scafell Pike are nearby, too, which is perfect for fell walkers and rock climbers.

(Motorhomes over 30-feet long are prohibited, due to the narrow site roads).
Set in over 12 acres of landscaped grounds with lawns and mature trees, Stanmore Hall is an affiliated Caravan Club site. Hardstanding pitches surround a central lake, and an adults-only section is provided. There are 30 superpitches with water, drainage, hook-up and satellite TV connection. A heated conservatory, overlooking the lake, offers visitors somewhere to sit and relax.

This site is a working arable farm and offers fantastic views from all of its 15 pitches. The grass pitches are spacious and most now include Wi-Fi internet access. There are also hardstanding pitches (with hook-up) available if the weather turns nasty. Despite the open appearance of the site it is sheltered from the northerly winds by tall hedges.

Pitton Cross is made up of six small paddocks which vary in size from nine to 30 pitches. These small paddocks lend an informal feel, and many pitches offer great sea views. There are chemical toilet emptying facilities on site but no dedicated motorhome service area. Two special offers are available during the low-season: a seven-day stay at a reduced rate for the over-50s and a mid-week 'four nights for the price of three'.

Stowford takes winter camping seriously with an area dedicated to the accommodation of low-season visitors. It has 50 spacious, hardstanding pitches, metalled access roads and a purpose-built central amenity building with winter specification (including underfloor heating and double-glazing), a family bathroom and facilities for the disabled.

This large campsite has its pitches dispersed among the oaks and pine trees of the New Forest, giving each visitor ample room for privacy. Most pitches are hardstanding in that the forest soil is compacted, but they are not metalled, and rock pegs are required to fix awning guy ropes. There are no toilet or shower facilities.
