CUTLERY DRAW

The only thing we wanted for in our new Lunar Champ A601 was a bigger cutlery tray. Our solution was to construct a new cutlery box and suspend it in the main lower kitchen cupboard by screwing it into the uprights at each corner. The result: a cutlery drawer of ample proportions in the most practical location.

REMINDER TO DRIVE ON THE RIGHT

To remind myself to drive on the right on the Continent, I wear my wrist watch on the opposite wrist to normal. It feels different and is a good aide memoire. Also, I have placed a small, red adhesive dot on the driver’s side mirror and this, too, helps me remember.

ELECTRIC HOTPLATE

We use an electric hotplate for most of our cooking. Electricity is cheaper as it is usually included in the price of the site, and it’s much safer than gas for cooking in the awning. We bought ours for about £25 and it has paid for itself over and over. We now only carry the 907 Gaz cylinders and don’t have to waste as much time searching for refills.

THE CABLE GUY

I tow a boat behind my campervan with 12S and 12N cables, and in order to protect them I use spiral binding, available from good electrical stores. I wrap the two cables together and the last 15cm before the plugs are left free. This prevent the cables fraying and keeps them tidy. For the best result, I pull any excess cable back into the A-frame leaving the 12S and 12N cables the right length for safe towing.

STAY THERE!

Not wanting to keep our awning door closed in the hot weather, we came up with an easy way of keeping the awning cool and also prevent our dogs from wandering off. Put a small piece of folding garden trellis across the awning door. This is low enough to step over but high enough to stop the dogs taking themselves for unauthorised walkies. When not in use, the trellis folds down just small enough to keep in the motorhome's wet locker.

IDENTIFYING GAS BOTTLES

To avoid your gas bottles getting mixed up, attach a leather luggage strap or paper tag onto the full bottles, so that when you arrive on site you’ll find it easy to identify which ones are empty and which are full.

CABINET CONUNDRUM

The bathroom cabinet in our Lunar Champ has small bars in place. Each time I slide the mirrored doors open something always falls out into the washbasin, which is particularly irritating when it is full of water. My husband used some of my plastic cross-stitch sheets, which I use for craftwork, and glued a sheet across each one with silicone glue. Hey presto! I can now use the cabinet without any annoyances.
